Ogun ex-Women Affairs Commissioner clinches APC Reps ticket

Former Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives candidate for the Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections following her victory at the party’s primary election at the weekend.

Adeleye secured a sweeping victory across the 21 wards that make up the federal constituency, polling a total of 25,167 votes.

According to the result announced by the party’s electoral officer, Wale Ajayi, in the presence of security agents, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and party stakeholders at Ifo RCM 1, “Adeleye garnered 17,286 votes from Ifo Local Government Area and 7,881 votes from Ewekoro Local Government Area, totaling 25,167 votes.”

“I am glad that the election witnessed massive participation by delegates, party faithful, and stakeholders across the two Local Government Areas, with observers across wards describing it as peaceful, orderly, transparent, and reflective of the internal democratic values of the All Progressives Congress (APC). I commend the maturity displayed throughout the process, as it is a strong signal of unity and cohesion within the party structure ahead of the 2027 elections,” the former commissioner stated.

Adeleye expressed gratitude to the leadership and members of the party for their confidence and overwhelming support, noting that the peaceful conduct of the exercise further reaffirmed the party’s commitment to internal democracy, inclusiveness, and progressive ideals.

“The election was conducted peacefully and transparently, reflecting the maturity, discipline, and unity within our great party. Beyond the outcome, today’s exercise further demonstrates that our party, the APC remains committed to internal democracy, fairness, and collective progress. I sincerely appreciate the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Consensus Gubernatorial candidate, Senator Adeola Olamilekan, leaders, stakeholders, delegates, and party faithful for their confidence, sacrifices, and unwavering support throughout this process,” she stated.

Adeleye’s candidacy had earlier received the endorsement of key APC apex leaders and stakeholders across the federal constituency including the Chairman of Ifo Apex Leaders, Chief Joju Fadairo; former member of the House of Representatives and Chairman, Apex Leadership, Ewekoro Local Government, Engr Sina Adegbenro; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat; former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo; and members of the Ogun State House of Assembly representing Ewekoro and Ifo II State Constituencies, Yusuf Amosun and Hon Fola Salami, respectively.

Other leaders who threw their weight behind her candidacy include former Majority Leaders of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Israel Jolaoso and Bode Adeaga, as well as the Executive Chairmen of Ifo and Ewekoro Local Government Areas, Idris Kushimo and Sikiru Adeshina, alongside several party elders, stakeholders, ward leaders, women groups, youth leaders, and loyal APC faithful across the federal constituency.
