The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola otherwise known as Yayi, has commended the traditional rulers in Yewaland, for rejecting a huge cash offer allegedly made by the governorship candidate of a faction of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during his consultative meeting with the Yewa Traditional Council at Ilaro.
In a statement issued and signed Senator Adeola’s Media Adviser, Kayode Odunaro, at the weekend, the APC governorship candidate described the reported action of the monarchs as a demonstration of integrity and a reaffirmation of Yewaland’s collective resolve to support the aspiration of Ogun West Senatorial District to produce the next governor of Ogun State in 2027.
He expressed delight and joy at the reported rejection of monetary offer allegedly made to the traditional rulers while maintaining that Yewaland had already identified with his governorship bid in pursuit of what he described as equity, fairness and balanced political representation in Ogun State’s 50 years history.
He said the reported decision by the royal fathers underscored the determination of the people of Ogun West to correct what he characterized as a longstanding imbalance in the state’s political leadership .
“For five decades since the creation of Ogun State, Ogun West has not produced a democratically elected governor. The aspiration of our people is founded on the principles of justice, fairness and inclusion. The reported position of the Yewa monarchs reflects that collective aspiration and demonstrates that the collective interest of our people cannot be compromised on the altar of financial inducement.
“It would be inconsistent with the quest for equity and balanced power sharing for Yewaland to support another governorship candidate from Remo when the incumbent Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, is also from Ogun East Senatorial District. The 2027 election is a great opportunity to correct a historic imbalance and ensure that every part of Ogun State has a sense of belonging in the leadership of our dear state going forward.” the statement added.
Adeola declared that he will not begrudge any contestant of their right to pursue personal or family interest, emphasising that “the overall interest of political stability, equity, justice and even development of Ogun State and its people should be of paramount interest.”
