From Laide Raheem, Abeokuta
The Orimolusi of Ijebu Igbo, Oba Lawrence Jaiyeoba, has disclosed that the late Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, while alive, had endorsed the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as his preferred candidate to succeed Governor Dapo Abiodun in 2027.
Oba Jaiyeoba, who is the Acting Chairman of Ijebu Traditional Council, disclosed this when Governor Dapo Abiodun presented the APC governorship candidate to the traditional rulers in Ijebu-Ode at the weekend.
According to him, the late Awujale made it clear to the Council in 2024 when he openly endorsed Senator Adeola to be the next governor of the state come 2027.
The Orimolusi declared the traditional council’s unalloyed support for Adeola, ahead of the next year’s poll.
He said that the unanimous endorsement of the governorship candidate by the traditional rulers aligned with the wishes of the late Awujale.
“At the 2024 Ojude Oba Festival, the late Awujale publicly endorsed Yayi as his preferred choice for the governorship in 2027, urging the council to support him. Many of us were present when he declared him as a son in whom he is well pleased and should emerge the next governor of Ogun State”, Oba Jaiyeoba stated.
The monarch further highlighted the scorecard as Ogun West Senator, noting his huge impact in the district.
According to him, “Senator Adeola’s impact has now cut across all local governments in the state through developmental projects and empowerment initiatives; and this is another reason why we are giving him our full support”, he added.
He praised Governor Dapo Abiodun for making the right choice as the senator .
In his remarks, Governor Abiodun lauded Adeola for being a worthy successor in waiting.
“I searched for a man of integrity, capacity, compassion, experience and one with Ogun West origin to be my successor; and in Senator Solomon Adeola, I found that man. I know he will deliver from day one,” the Governor said.
