The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has excluded the name of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oladipupo Adebutu, and his deputy from the final list of governorship candidates cleared for the 2027 general election.
According to the information pasted on the portal of INEC in Ogun State, Adebutu’s name was conspicuously missing from the final list of the gubernatorial candidates.
A critical examination of the list by Sunday Sun showed that the name of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola was listed by the electoral body.
Also, the name of Jimi Lawal of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and candidates of other parties such as the APM, NNPP, BP and others made the INEC list.
Reacting to the development, however, the Ijebu East PDP ICT, Media and Publicity Committee said the news of the omission of Adebutu and his running mate was totally false, baseless and total propaganda.
“We wish to inform the general public, our teeming supporters, party leaders, and the good people of Ogun State that this report is totally false, baseless, and a deliberate propaganda sponsored by jittery opposition who are already afraid of the overwhelming popularity and acceptance of Hon. Ladi Adebutu ahead of 2027.

“What INEC displayed recently at its state office is NOT the final list. It is a routine preliminary list for public display, claims and objections as stipulated by the Electoral Act 2022. This is a standard administrative procedure that allows parties to correct any typographical errors or omissions.
“Every stakeholder in the political space knows that INEC does not release its final list in this manner. The Commission has its own official timetable.
“We have been officially informed and we wish to confirm to the public that INEC will release the ORIGINAL, FINAL and AUTHENTIC list of Governorship Candidates on 3 November 2026. On that date, the name of Hon. (Dr.) Oladipupo Adebutu will be boldly published as the legitimate, constitutional and undisputed Governorship Candidate of the PDP in Ogun State.
“Hon. Ladi Adebutu emerged as the PDP candidate through a free, fair, credible, and transparent primary election, duly monitored by INEC itself. His candidacy was affirmed by the courts and his nomination was duly submitted and accepted by the party. There is no court judgment anywhere removing him.
“Those peddling this fake news are the same people who have been trying to use the backdoor to distract our movement. They have failed before and they will fail again.
“We therefore call on all our supporters, women, youths, elders, artisans, market men and women, and lovers of good governance across the 20 Local Governments of Ogun State to remain calm, remain steadfast, and disregard this wicked rumour.
“Hon. Ladi Adebutu’s mandate is divine and is firmly on course. He is fully on the ballot and by the grace of God and with your support, he will emerge as the next Governor of Ogun State to rescue our dear state from misrule,” the statement reads partly.
