The Student Affairs Committee of the Ogun State All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Campaign Council has challenged Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, to present a verifiable record of service to Ogun State instead of engaging in manufactured distractions and political rhetoric.
The committee issued the challenge in a Saturday statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Samson Ajasa Adeyemi.
According to the committee, the 2027 governorship election should be about ideas, proven capacity and measurable contributions to development.
Adeyemi said if Adebutu intends to contest against the APC candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, he should be ready to tell Ogun residents what he has done in the areas of education, human capital development, infrastructure and economic empowerment.
The committee pointed to what it described as Senator Adeola’s visible footprint across the state, citing scholarship and bursary schemes, provision of ICT centres, learning materials and education infrastructure support for students and schools.
The statement reads, “The attention of the Student Affairs Committee of the Ogun State APC 2027 Campaign Council has been drawn to recent comments and activities emanating from the camp of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, particularly those directed at the candidature and record of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Yayi.
“As Chairman of the Student Affairs Committee, I consider it necessary to state clearly that the Ogun student community is not unaware of the issues at stake in the 2027 gubernatorial contest. Our decision to support and endorse Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Yayi, is informed by a careful consideration of his record of interventions, particularly in education, youth development, empowerment and constituency representation.
“The committee noted that in July 2026, no fewer than 5,513 Ogun students benefitted from the third edition of Adeola’s scholarship and bursary programme.”
Adeyemi further cited 53 constituency projects reportedly executed across roads, education, healthcare, security and commerce to mark the third anniversary of his tenure in Ogun West, and the Oloja Yayi Market Support Fund which it said disbursed N750 million in direct grants to 10,000 traders across the three senatorial districts of the state.
“These are the kinds of interventions that explain why the Ogun student community has found reason to identify with Senator Yayi’s aspiration. Students are not merely listening to political speeches; they are looking at who has demonstrated, through concrete interventions, an understanding of the challenges confronting young people and educational institutions,” he said.
The committee maintained that the forthcoming election must not be reduced to personal attacks that add no value to the lives of residents, but should provide an opportunity for voters to compare records, programmes and interventions.
“Hon. Adebutu should bring his own verifiable record to the table. Let the people compare records, programmes, interventions and measurable contributions,” the statement reads in part.
The committee said it was prepared for an issue-based campaign and would defend Adeola’s record with facts, while expecting other contenders to subject their own stewardship to public scrutiny.
It urged Adebutu to specifically address Ogun students, teachers, artisans, traders and young people on what he has personally contributed to their welfare and what he intends to do differently if elected.
“We are not asking for family achievements, inherited business accomplishments or the records of organisations associated with his family.
“We are asking for his own demonstrable record of public service and measurable interventions. Ogun people, including our students and young people, deserve to examine the records of the individuals seeking their mandate,” he said.
Adeyemi stressed that “the students and young people of Ogun State deserve a campaign of substance, accountability and evidence,” adding that the committee would continue to engage the public and promote issue-based discourse ahead of the 2027 polls.
