Following the successful conclusion of the 8th (fourth elective) National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), prominent party chieftains from Arochukwu and Ohafia paid a courtesy visit to the Abuja residence of Abia North Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu yesterday.

The convention, which attracted over 8,000 party faithful, was conducted through a widely accepted consensus process that led to the emergence of Nentawe Yilwatda as National Chairman, alongside other members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

Speaking after the visit, a party stalwart from the Federal constituency, Hon. Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as Ignes, commended Senator Kalu for his instrumental role in ensuring the success of the convention. He specifically lauded Kalu’s leadership as Chairman of the Screening Committee (Team B) and the Ceremonies and Programme Presentation Sub-Committee.

Ogbonna noted that the seamless execution of the convention, particularly the absence of any security breaches despite the large turnout, underscored the effectiveness of the committees overseen by Kalu.

“As you can see, an event of this magnitude with over 8,000 attendees recorded no single incident of violence. Senator Kalu presided over very critical committees, and the success of this convention rested heavily on their performance. He has indeed made us proud, not just as party stakeholders but as Abians,” he stated.

He further highlighted the high level of professionalism demonstrated throughout the event, citing detailed programme structuring, effective time management, speaker coordination, and protocol arrangements all executed in line with global best practices. According to him, the convention reflected the unity, discipline, and organizational strength of the APC.

Ogbonna also credited Senator Kalu’s leadership and mentorship for fostering unity within the party in Abia State, noting that the APC in Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency has become more cohesive and strengthened under his influence.

Describing the exercise as the most successful convention ever conducted by any political party in Nigeria, he emphasised the importance of contingency planning, effective stakeholder communication, and coordinated logistics in achieving a hitch-free event.

He also praised the address delivered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as inspiring, while commending other party leaders including Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and Abia APC Chairman, Hon. Chijoke Chukwu, for their contributions to the party’s growth in the state.

Ogbonna congratulated the newly elected NWC members, including National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda and National Secretary Ajibola Basiru, urging them to build on the achievements of President Tinubu by strengthening internal democracy, transparency, inclusiveness, and party discipline.

He further called on the new leadership to work towards building a more unified, pan-Nigerian political platform capable of advancing national development.

In his response, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu expressed appreciation for the visit and the continued support from party stakeholders in Arochukwu and Ohafia. He reaffirmed his commitment to effective representation, pledging to intensify efforts in delivering infrastructure, basic amenities, and empowerment initiatives across the constituency.

Kalu assured that he would continue to work assiduously to ensure that the people of Arochukwu and Ohafia Local Government Areas fully benefit from the dividends of democracy.
