The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 9 Command, Umuahia, Abia State, Nwonyi Emeka, has said that synergy between the police and other stakeholders is the panacea for effective security management in the country.
AIG Emeka stated this in his office in Umuahia when executive members of the Ohaigbo Community Development Initiative (OCDI) paid him a courtesy visit.
Emeka told his visitors that security is a collective responsibility that cannot be handled by the police alone, inviting the group to enter into a strategic partnership with the police to make the South-East a crime-free zone.
The Zone 9 helmsman said that, in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, his command has moved from reactionary to proactive policing.
While advising the OCDI members to discourage the spread of rumours that could create unnecessary tension in communities, the AIG encouraged them to promote mechanisms that could resolve disputes at an early stage.
“The future of the South-East is inseparable from the future of our youths. Therefore, youths should be encouraged to be innovators so as to make them less vulnerable to crimes.
“It is pertinent to note that investors cannot invest where there is insecurity and that calls for all hands to be on deck to make the society crime free.”

He noted that the South-East has enormous human resources and assured that the Zone 9 Command, which comprises Abia, Imo and Ebonyi states, will do all within its power to protect lives and property in those states and beyond.
The National President of OCDI, Jonathan David Okwudiri, told the AIG that the group, as a pan-Igbo movement, was established to mobilise, unite and empower its people at the grassroots for collective prosperity. He said the group came to seek a strategic partnership with the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 9 Command.
Okwudiri said the partnership could be in the areas of community policing and intelligence sharing, promotion and defence of fundamental human rights, peace and security sensitisation, youth engagement and crime prevention, support for victims of crime, and security feedback mechanisms.
The OCDI National President said his group was in consultation and dialogue with traditional rulers, governments, other South-East stakeholders and security agencies for peace and development in the zone.
Okwudiri disclosed that the group’s national inauguration will be held on October 30, 2026, in Umuahia, Abia State.
