Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has charged members of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state to uphold the values of patriotism, discipline, integrity, and selfless service throughout their national assignment.
The governor gave the charge on Friday while declaring open the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area.
The Governor, who was represented at the ceremony by the Delta State Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Barr. Enodeh Brave, described the orientation programme as the beginning of a journey that would shape their character, broaden their perspectives, and prepare them to make meaningful contributions to national development.
He said, “The oath you are take is a solemn commitment to serve Nigeria with loyalty, discipline, integrity, and selflessness. Let these values guide your conduct throughout your service year and beyond.”
Oborevwori also noted that for more than five decades, the NYSC Scheme has remained a vital platform for promoting national unity, cultural integration, and peaceful coexistence, urging the corps members to sustain its legacy through exemplary conduct.
The Governor assured them of the state’s commitment to their welfare and security, stating that the administration would continue to collaborate with the NYSC to provide a safe and conducive environment while improving facilities at the orientation camp.
Oborevwori also encouraged the corps members to take full advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, stressing that entrepreneurial and vocational skills are essential for success in today’s competitive economy.
According to him, “Success requires more than academic qualifications. It demands innovation, adaptability, and entrepreneurial skills. The skills you acquire through the SAED programme can empower you to become self-reliant, create jobs, and contribute to economic growth.”
He further urged the participants to build friendships across ethnic and cultural divides, develop leadership qualities, and remain committed to national unity throughout their service year.
Earlier, the State Coordinator, Mr. John Vandi T. Kwaghe, disclosed that a total of 2,028 prospective corps members, comprising 949 males and 1,079 females, were successfully registered and fully kitted for the three-week orientation exercise.
Kwaghe said the orientation course had been carefully designed to instill the core values and principles of the NYSC Scheme, adding that camp officials and resource persons were prepared to deliver programmes aimed at making the exercise impactful and transformative.
He urged the corps members to consider their deployment to Delta State as a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the state’s development agenda under Governor Oborevwori’s administration.
He commended the Delta State Government for its continued support to the NYSC, particularly the donation of 1,500 mattresses for the newly constructed hostel, the approval for the renovation of the camp’s multipurpose hall, and the construction of a new pavilion.
While expressing appreciation for the government’s interventions, Kwaghe appealed for the immediate commencement of the renovation of the multipurpose hall, describing its current condition as unsuitable for lectures and indoor activities, especially during the rainy season.
He also requested the construction of an additional industrial borehole to address persistent water shortages at the camp, revealing that the existing borehole had broken down, forcing camp management to rely on costly water tanker supplies.
He also acknowledged the contributions of stakeholders and partners to the scheme, including Hon. Stella Okotiti, for renovating the camp’s mini pavilion after it was destroyed by a rainstorm more than a year ago.
Others he appreciated include the Delta State Judiciary, represented by Hon. Justice Christopher Dumebi Diai, for administering the Oath of Allegiance, as well as the Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government Area, Hon. Emmanuel Bazim Chinye, and the Obi of Issele-Uku Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Obi Engr. Nduka Ezeagwuna, represented by palace chiefs, for their continued support.
