Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has charged the Nigeria Police Force to deal decisively with criminal elements and sponsors of violence in the state, irrespective of their status or political affiliation.

Oborevwori gave the directive yesterday when the newly posted Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Erale, and members of his management team paid him a  visit.

The governor stressed that no individual was above the law, directing the police to ensure that anyone involved in criminal activities or sponsoring violence was dealt with in accordance with the law.

He congratulated Erale on his posting to Delta State, describing it as timely, and wished him a successful tenure.

Oborevwori said peace and security remained fundamental to economic stability, physical development and sustainable progress in the state.

He therefore charged the police command to intensify the fight against all forms of crime while embracing intelligence-led policing, technology, community partnership, professionalism and respect for the rights of citizens.

The governor assured the Commissioner of Police of the state government’s continued cooperation and support in the discharge of his duties.

Earlier, Erale said the visit was to formally introduce himself and his management team to the governor and reaffirm the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property in the state.

The CP assured the governor that professionalism and discipline would remain the watchwords of his administration and would be reflected across all ranks of the command.

He pledged to rejig the security architecture of the state through intelligence-led, technology-driven and community-centred policing, with a determination to further strengthen peace and security across Delta.

According to a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, Erale also acknowledged the governor’s support for security and conveyed the regards of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu.

Edafe said the governor’s charge underscored the need for the command to sustain its efforts against criminality while working closely with relevant stakeholders to maintain peace and security across the state.
