Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, yesterday commissioned a standard 30-bed space Cottage Hospital, newly built and well equipped at Iteregbi community by Uvwie Local Government Council.

He described the project as a critical achievement in strengthening grassroots healthcare and a direct manifestation of his administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda for Meaningful Development.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Governor Oborevwori, who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, lauded the vision and tenacity of the Uvwie Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Anthony Ofoni, for prioritizing health infrastructure.

The Governor stated that the facility showcases the power of local governance, demonstrating that “when determined leadership meets a clear community need, extraordinary results are achieved.”

The Governor highlighted the strategic importance of the hospital, noting that it is positioned to provide essential services, including maternal and childcare, emergency stabilization, basic surgery, and general outpatient services.

”This project will significantly decongest the existing tertiary hospitals and save countless lives by ensuring that the crucial first line of medical attention is readily available,” Governor Oborevwori said.

He emphasized his administration’s commitment to improving the healthcare system across the state, which is a key pillar of the M.O.R.E Agenda.

Governor Oborevwori also urged the people to take ownership of the new asset and government projects in their area.

”You are the primary beneficiaries, and you must also be the primary protectors of this asset.

”I urge the community development committees and the traditional rulers to take ownership, ensure the security of the personnel and the equipment,” he said.

The Governor observed that the people of Uvwie are enjoying development projects because of their peaceful and accommodating nature.

HRM Dr. Emmanuel E. Sideso, Abe 1, JP, the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, who tagged his address as “A moment of gratitude and progress,” described the Cottage Hospital as a new chapter of health and well-being for the community.

He noted that a lot can be achieved when government and community work together towards a common goal.

The King commended Governor Oborevwori for the massive infrastructure development currently transforming the entire state and, especially, Uvwie Kingdom, which includes ongoing construction of three flyover bridges, a clover-leaf interchange, and road expansion in Effurun area being handled by Julius Berger Nig. Plc.

Chairman, Iteregbi Community, Mr. John Agusa, appreciated the Council Chairman for executing the Cottage Hospital in Iteregbi Community.

Also speaking at the occasion, Hon. Emakpor Edafe, member of the Delta State House of Assembly representing Uvwie Constituency, assured that he will continue to support the Chairman for the even development of the local government area.

Earlier in an address, Hon. Ofoni said that the project was delivered based on the need of the people.
