A former presidential aspirant of the Action Alliance (AA), Joseph Faduri, has said the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, is too good to be Nigeria’s president.
Faduri, who addressed journalists yesterday in Abuja, argued that being a good person alone does not equate to leadership ability.
He cited the crisis that engulfed the Labour Party, stating that the former Anambra State governor did not demonstrate the leadership required to address the impasse.
He said: “Mr. Peter Obi, to me, is a good man. I appreciate that. But being a good man alone is not enough to run a country.
“Being a good man alone is not enough to run a country. And that was exactly what happened in Labour Party. He was a good man, but he doesn’t have a leadership quality to put his house in order.
“And on that, we can blame everybody, but not blame the man on top of. He was the leader of the party. As a leader of the house, if your house is in disarray, it is your duty to fix it.
“We blame the leader of the country. But look at how Labour Party was torn apart and Mr. Peter Obi could not undo just Labour Party.

“Labour Party is the microcosm of Nigeria. So if Labour Party that represents a small Nigeria where you have the good, the bad and the ugly, we cannot manage them, how will such a man manage a complex nation like Nigeria? This is not Anambra State where people speak almost the same language.”
On why Nigeria is still underdeveloped, he cited the refusal of older politicians to pave the way for younger people to lead, adding that they keep recycling outdated ideas to address modern challenges.
He said: “I felt there should be a change of power completely from the old to the younger generation.
“Some of them are in their 70s and 80s. It is time for them to pass the baton that is why I am stepping in now.
“A lot is wrong in being old and running for power in Nigeria. As long as Africa is concerned, if you look at countries that are prospering they have young leaders and the ones run by older people have structures in place but Nigeria’s case is different even when they were young there were never at their best in this country.
“They are corrupt with no structure and institutions to better the nation.
“They are more experienced in looting and stealing. Hence it is time to pass the baton. They have tried their best but their best is not enough.”
