The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Peter Obi, has assured the people of Cross River State that the Calabar Port will become fully operational under his administration, alongside other ports across the Niger Delta.
Obi gave the assurance on his verified Facebook page following a town hall meeting in Calabar, held in the company of his running mate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
He said his administration would embark on aggressive investments in education, healthcare and other critical areas of development, while pulling Nigerians out of poverty.
He also pledged to unite and secure the country.
“I also assured the teeming crowd of participants and supporters that, under our stewardship, the Calabar Port would become fully operational, alongside other ports across the Niger Delta,” he said.
On tourism, Obi recalled with nostalgia how Calabar, Obudu and other destinations in Cross River used to be preferred tourism destinations for Nigerians and even foreigners.

He said poor governance and inadequate attention had made the state lose much of its tourism value.
The NDC presidential candidate pledged his commitment to restoring Cross River to its pride of place, starting with his personal commitment, when elected President, to spending his holidays at its tourism destinations.
At the town hall meeting, participants expressed concerns and asked questions about the Calabar Port, the restoration of tourism, security, the economy and the general welfare of Nigerians.
Prior to the meeting, Obi and Kwankwaso led Cross River NDC candidates, party members and supporters on a courtesy visit to His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, the Obong of Calabar.
At the palace, they informed him of their visit and the town hall meeting. The monarch shared words of wisdom and offered prayers and blessings.
Obi encouraged members and supporters to be prepared to defend their votes on Election Day, especially in the face of continued hostility from the government.
He thanked supporters, party members, candidates and well-wishers who attended the town hall meeting, and the people of Cross River for their warm hospitality.
