The race for the Ibadan NorthEast/SouthEast Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections gained momentum on Tuesday as Hon. (Alhaja) Sekinat Tolanikawo Adelakun-Akande, wife of popular Fuji Star, Abass Akande Obesere formally declared her candidacy under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adelakun-Akande, widely known as Eruobodo, daughter of late strongman of Ibadan politics, Busari Adelakun Eruobodo made her declaration at St. Cyprian’s Primary School, Oluyoro, Oke-Oga, Ibadan, where she was welcomed by a large turnout of party members, supporters, and residents.
Her entry into the race follows an earlier engagement with stakeholders in Ibadan South East Local Government earlier on Monday.
Addressing journalists after the event, the aspirant said her ambition is rooted in a strong desire to serve and amplify the voices of her constituents at the National Assembly.
“I am deeply connected to the grassroots. This aspiration is about representing the interests of our people and ensuring their voices are heard nationally,” she said.
Adelakun-Akande, who is married to Fuji icon Abass Akande Obesere, assured constituents of effective and responsive representation, pledging to prioritise community development and inclusive governance if elected.
She also drew attention to her political lineage, describing her late father, Alhaji Busari Oloyede Adelakun, as a major influence on her public service orientation.
Beyond her political ambition, she highlighted her humanitarian work through the ASTAA Foundation, which focuses on empowering women, supporting widows, and assisting vulnerable groups. According to her, these long-standing interventions reflect her commitment to social impact beyond electoral politics.
In her remarks, the Oyo State APC Woman Leader, Dr. Adekemi Opatunde, described Adelakun-Akande’s declaration as a boost for women’s participation in politics. She urged women and party faithfuls to obtain and use their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing that active civic engagement is key to driving meaningful change.
The declaration event also had a celebratory feel, with musical performances by Fuji stars, including Obesere and Sule Adio Atawewe, entertaining supporters and energising the crowd.
