Obaseki, Oshiomhole spar over Iyamho attack

Obaseki meets Oshiomhole, seeks truce

Tony Osauzo, Benin

All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, has washed his hands off the attacked on Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, at his residence.

Oshiomohole, however claimed that thugs mobilised by Obaseki last weekend during the convocation of Edo University, Iyamho to attack him turned around to attack the governor.

At a news briefing, yestersidence, Oshiomhole maintained that he was surprised that Obaseki, who was not among the dignitaries he invited for lunch in his house, could led thugs to his house, arguing that angry villagers engered by his action merely reacted.

He still insisted that the Deputy Governor, Philip Shuaibu, orchestrated the whole incident, displaying video evidences of how he stormed the convocation venue with thugs and motorcycle operators.

He absolved himself of sponsoring attacks on guests who he had invited, stressing that it was unthinkable that he would attack his own guests.

The governor, accompanied by other dignitaries, including Oba of Lagos, who attended the maiden convocation ceremony of Edo University, Iyamho, were on invitation for lunch in the house of Oshiomhole, when the incident happened.

APC Chairman, Anslem Ojezua, described the attack as disgraceful.

“It was a disgraceful act and if they thought they wanted to bring disgrace to the state governor, I think they have succeeded in bringing that to the national chairman. For that incident to happened in his residence with dignitaries from across the country is shameful and a dent on the reputation of the national chairman.

“I think there is also a criminal dimension to the incident and I hope the security agencies will take that up,” Ojezua said.

In his reaction, former political adviser to Oshiomhole, Charles Idahosa, said the incident was despicable and a shame.

“The incident that happened was an embarrassment to Edo State, Nigeria and an embarrassment to democracy.

“It is very sad, this is not an agbero association where you will be behaving like garrison commander. It is very sad,” he said.

But Edo Youth Volunteers (EYV) holds a different view on the incident, saying the attack was provoked by the deputy governor’s action, and, therefore Oshiomhole should not be blamed for the incident.

“I am shocked that people are talking about Oshiomhole and the incident in his house and they are not talking about the actions that led to the incident.

“Our investigation showed that Oshiomhole actually told his aides that he was expecting some visitors and dropped the names of the people he was expecting, said.
