Governor Godwin Obaseki has joined the league‎ of top politicians who could not win their local governments and federal constituency seat for their parties in the just concluded presidential and National Assembly elections.

Results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Benin indicated that he lost in his Oredo local government.

The governor’s party, the APC, polled 21,496 votes, while the PDP scored 35,841 votes.

The candidate of the party for Oredo Federal Constituency, Hon. Tony Osaigbovo Iyoha, also lost his bid to unseat the incumbent lawmaker representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama of the PDP.

Ogbeide-Ihama floored his APC opponent with 32,895 votes as against ‎23,352 votes polled by Iyoha.

At the time of this report, the senatorial results for Edo South and Central Senatorial Districts were yet to be declared.
