OAU confers first class degrees on 215 students as 7,368 graduate

The Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, on Thursday, disclosed that 215 students will be graduating with first-class degrees at the 48th convocation of the university.

Speaking at a press conference heralding the convocation on Thursday, Prof Bamire disclosed that the degrees, which cut across the 13 faculties, will see 2,197 graduating with second-class upper division, 2,691 with second-class lower division, 755 with third-class honours, 61 with upper credit, 33 with lower credit, and 62 with pass.

He said 13 will bag distinctions in unclassified degrees; 59 will pass with distinction; and 154 will pass with credit during the convocation ceremony, which will hold between Thursday 12th and Saturday 14th December.

On postgraduate degrees, Prof Bamire said 74 will bag Postgraduate Diplomas, 708 with Master’s Degrees, and 176 with Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

According to the VC, the university will be conferring honorary awards on five individuals, including the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; Group Chairman of Mutual Benefit Plc, Dr Akinade Ogunbiyi; Prof Anthony Adegbulugbe; CEO of MTN Nigeria Communications Plc, Prince Karl Toriola; and Daere Afonya-Akobo.
