OAU 400-level medical student dies during clinical assessment

A 400-level medical student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Oreoluwa Emmanuel Adewole, has reportedly died during a clinical assessment.

The university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, confirmed the incident on Thursday.

Olarewaju said the student was in Part IV at the College of Health Sciences. He added that the incident occurred during a clinical viva examination, when the student reportedly complained of chest pain.

According to him, the student was immediately attended to by his lecturers and fellow medical students present. Despite prompt medical attention and efforts to revive him, the student passed on.

OAU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Bamire, on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, staff, and students, extended condolences to the parents, siblings, and entire family of the deceased. He also commiserated with the deceased’s friends, colleagues, and members of the College of Health Sciences.

Olarewaju further stated that the university management is currently engaging relevant authorities and the family to provide support and to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
