The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has appealed to the Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, to provide a permanent orientation camp and improve the welfare of corps members serving in the state.

The State Coordinator, Mrs. Efeke Murna Dadaza, made the call on Tuesday during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Batch B Stream I orientation course at the NYSC temporary camp, Government College Kaduna.

The popular Black Gold Orientation Camp, located at kilometres 18, Kaduna-Abuja highway, had, a few years back, been taken over by the military as a security base to check insecurity on the highway and around the Sabon Gaya general area.

Since then, the orientation camp has been ‘temporarily’ moved to Government College, Kurmi Mashi, Kaduna North Local Government area of the State, where they share facilities with secondary school students and staff.

The coordinator commended the corps members for their discipline and commitment during the three-week programme, urging them to be good ambassadors of the scheme in their places of primary assignment.

Mrs. Dadaza listed the scheme’s requests to include a befitting permanent orientation camp, better welfare support for corps members during their service year.

Other requests are the inauguration of the NYSC Kaduna State Governing Board and the provision of utility vehicles to aid camp operations.

“We solicit further support from His Excellency in providing NYSC Kaduna with a befitting Permanent Orientation Camp.

“Welfare of our Corps members during their primary assignment, inaugurating the NYSC Kaduna State NYSC Governing Board, and
provision of utility vehicles,” she requested.

The Coordinator also encouraged corps members to build on the skills acquired under the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to become self-reliant and contribute to job creation.

She expressed appreciation to the Kaduna State Government, security agencies, and other stakeholders for supporting the successful conduct of the orientation exercise.

The State Governor, Uba Sani, who was represented by the Commissioner for the Ministry of Youth Development, Barrister, Gloria Ibrahim, reiterated his administration’s commitment to the security of corps members and staff across the State.

He also urged the corps members to be good ambassadors of their family and the scheme by way of embarking on community development projects that will outlive them.

He also appealed to corps employees not to reject corps members posted to them but rather help them so that they can settle down quickly for the national service.
