The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has threatened to sanction any corps member involved in any act capable of tarnishing the good image of the scheme, their families and the country during their service year.
Director General of the scheme, Brigadier General Muhammad Kaku Fadah, read the riot act in his address to corps members during his visit to Ebonyi, Cross River and Imo State Orientation Camps. In a statement issued by Eddy Megwa, Director, Press and Public Relations, he urged them to maintain a high level of discipline by avoiding cultism, cybercrime, hooliganism and drug-related offences. He advised them to be of good behaviour.
He warned: “NYSC has zero tolerance for misconduct and you are expected to adhere to every rule and regulation as being advised. If you violate the laid-down rules and regulations you will be sanctioned.”
The DG equally admonished the corps members to maintain personal security, adding that the scheme has made enough preparation for their welfare and security. He also warned that they should not endanger themselves through late-night movements and partying, among others. He urged them to use the social media to promote the unity and integration of the country and to counter spread of fake news.
The NYSC Ebonyi State Coordinator, Mrs Mercy Bamai, informed General Fadah that the 887 corps members in the camp, comprising 359 males and 528 males, are all well-behaved. NYSC Cross River State Coordinator, Andrew Zemoh said the registered 974 corps members made up of 531 males and 443 females have all keyed into the in-camp training of Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme aimed at empowering corps members on self-reliance.
The NYSC lmo State Coordinator, Rachel Idaewor, thanked the DG for finding time to visit the corps members comprising 205 males, 769 female and other camp participants.
