The Chief Executive Officer of ABIG Nwankwo Foundation and GMD, Bigly Group, Ichie Chimezie Ken Nwankwo, has turned his birthday celebration into a major empowerment initiative, splashing N85 million on 85 indigenes of Okija in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Each of the 85 beneficiaries received N1 million, with beneficiaries drawn from the nine Obi areas of Okija.
The empowerment, according to the organisers, was designed to support beneficiaries in their businesses, livelihoods and other productive ventures, while promoting economic empowerment at the grassroots.
The distribution process was supervised by Dr Frank Igbojindu, GMD, Akpoazaa Group and an indigene of Okija, who adjudged the exercise fair, transparent and just.
Igbojindu commended Nwankwo for choosing to mark his birthday by giving back to his community, describing the gesture as a demonstration of commitment to the welfare and economic advancement of Okija indigenes.
He also expressed appreciation to Nwankwo, Chairman of ABIG Nwankwo Foundation, for ensuring that the beneficiaries were selected across the nine Obi areas, thereby giving the programme broad community representation.
He urged the beneficiaries to make productive use of the N1 million each, stressing that the funds could serve as capital for expanding existing businesses or establishing new ventures.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Nwankwo and the foundation, describing the empowerment as timely and impactful.
Community stakeholders also hailed the initiative, saying that direct financial empowerment of individuals could contribute significantly to grassroots economic development.
The N85 million birthday empowerment has therefore transformed Nwankwo’s personal celebration into a community-focused intervention, providing financial support to 85 Okija indigenes and reinforcing the role of philanthropy in community development.
