The Nigerian centre-back also pointed to the team’s defensive organisation as one of the reasons behind their recent ability to concede fewer goals.
“One of the reasons we conceded so few goals is that we have been working on formations as a team. Our goalkeeper is also helping us a lot in this regard,” he added.
Trabzonspor moved to 16 points with the victory, one point ahead of Beşiktaş, who remained on 15 points after the eighth round.
Looking ahead, Nwaiwu stressed that Trabzonspor will need sustained effort if they are to challenge for the Turkish Super Lig title.
“We will go through very big stages to become champions. We know that becoming champions comes through very hard work,” he concluded.
