The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has commended the Federal Government’s efforts to promote the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as an alternative fuel source for vehicles.
The General Secretary, Kayode Agbeyangi, praised the government’s initiatives, contradicting a misleading newspaper report titled, “FG fails to fulfil its promise on CNG vehicles,” attributed to a faceless individual, Segun Falade, who falsely claimed to represent the union.
Agbeyangi clarified that Falade was unknown to the union and has not been authorised to speak on its behalf. He challenged anyone in doubt to verify the records at the NURTW headquarters.
The timing of the press release, coinciding with President Bola Tinubu’s national broadcast highlighting the CNG initiatives, suggests ulterior motives aimed at creating discord between the union and the Federal Government.
Agbeyangi confirmed that the CNG initiatives are ongoing, with successful launches in Kaduna, Lagos, and Abuja, covering the North West, South West and North Central zones. Free CNG conversion kits were distributed to transport operators, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to convert over one million vehicles at no cost.
