The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, has honoured the Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government, Prince Lanre Sanusi, with the Media Games Ambassador award in recognition of his contributions to grassroots development and responsive governance.

The honour was presented on Tuesday at the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Secretariat in Lagos by members of the NUJ Lagos State Executive Council and the Media Games Committee led by its Chairman, Mr. Adeleye Ajayi.

Speaking during the presentation, Adeleye Ajayi described Sanusi as a visionary leader whose administration had demonstrated that purposeful leadership at the grassroots could bring meaningful transformation to communities.

According to him, Sanusi’s administration has recorded notable achievements in road rehabilitation and construction, drainage projects, environmental sanitation, public space beautification and initiatives aimed at improving security across the local government.

Ajayi also commended the council chairman’s investment in youth and women empowerment through vocational training, skills acquisition programmes, support for small businesses and other employment-driven initiatives, noting that the interventions had strengthened the local economy and improved residents’ livelihoods.

He further praised the administration’s efforts in the education and health sectors, saying the projects reflected Sanusi’s commitment to sustainable development and people-centred governance.

Responding, Prince Lanre Sanusi thanked the NUJ for the recognition, describing the award as an encouragement to do more for the people of Amuwo-Odofin.

He said the achievements recorded by his administration were made possible through the collective efforts of the management team, staff, legislators and other stakeholders in the council.

Sanusi disclosed that the council had completed at least 11 major roads within 11 months and expressed optimism that several more projects would be delivered before the end of the year.

The council chairman added that his administration had also renovated the Legislative Chamber, expanded vocational training opportunities, improved healthcare facilities and intensified investment in sports development as part of efforts to engage youths positively.

He commended Bola Ahmed Tinubu for promoting local government autonomy, saying the policy had begun to yield positive results at the grassroots.

Sanusi pledged that his administration would continue to ensure prudent use of public funds while pursuing projects aimed at restoring Amuwo-Odofin to its former status as a model local government.

The NUJ Lagos State Council also expressed optimism about strengthening its partnership with the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government ahead of the 2026 NUJ Media Games, scheduled to hold from October 5 to 10 at Agege Stadium.

The union reaffirmed its commitment to recognising public office holders who distinguish themselves through impactful service delivery and community development.
