The national leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State for appointing a veteran practitioner, Norbert Chiazor, as his Executive Assistant (Media).
Chiazor, a former chairman of the state council of NUJ, held the same position in the second tenure of the former governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.
His latest appointment was contained in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu.
Appreciating the governor in a release by the national secretary of NUJ, Mr Leman Shaibu, said the appointment represented Oborevwori’s trust in the press as a strategic partner.
Shaibu described Chiazor as a brilliant, thorough-bred and outstanding journalist, sure-footed to bring value to the government.
While congratulating Chiazor on the top job, the statement assured the governor of support for his commitment to good governance in Delta.
Mr. Chiazor, a renowned communication scholar, is a graduate of English and Literature from the University of Benin. He also holds a degree in Mass Communication from Delta State University (DEL SU) and Masters Degree in Mass Communication from the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN).
He was Deputy General Manager and Head of News and Current Affairs, Delta Broadcasting Service, Warri where he disengaged from service in 2019 after a phenomenal journalism career that began in the defunct Bendel Broadcasting Service, Benin City.
A widely travelled media practitioner, Chiazor was at various times a freelance journalist in leading local and international newspapers including The Guardian newspaper and the defunct National Concord, as well as Mail & Guardian of South Africa, Irish Times and The Sowetan. He has published articles in the New York-based globally read newspaper, International Herald Tribune.
Popularly called a wordsmith for his informed and elegant writings, the veteran journalist hails from Idumuje-Unor in the Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Chiazor is expected to bring his oratory, vast knowledge and experience to bear in the propagation of the policy thrusts of the Oborevwori administration anchored on the M.O.R.E agenda.
