The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has conferred a Lifetime Service Award on Amadin Uyi, Abuja Bureau Chief and Head of Northern Operations at News Central, in recognition of his professional contributions and mentorship of younger journalists.
The award was presented at the NUJ FCT award and lecture ceremony in Abuja. The event was convened under the theme, “2027 election: Defending Democracy in the Era of Disinformation,” with media practitioners, civil society actors and other stakeholders in attendance.
According to the organisers, the recognition forms part of efforts to honour journalists, whose careers have contributed to sustaining professional standards in the industry. The NUJ said the award highlights sustained service and influence within the profession.

“As a newsroom, we celebrate Amadin’s well-deserved recognition,” said Bernard Akede, Head of Reportorial at News Central. “His commitment to ethical reporting and to training the next generation of journalists has strengthened journalistic standards and contributed to the public’s right to accurate information.”
Uyi has overseen News Central’s Abuja bureau and northern operations for several years, during which time, colleagues said he had focused on newsroom mentorship, capacity building and editorial discipline, particularly in political reporting and verification practices.
The NUJ ceremony also centred on concerns around information integrity ahead of the 2027 general elections, with discussions focusing on the role of journalists in addressing misinformation and safeguarding democratic processes.
