Plateau state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has asked its members to stay away from a press briefing scheduled by the state police command in Jos on Tuesday.
The newly-posted Police Commissioner, Hassan Steve Yabnet, had invited journalists to the police headquarters to what he described as his maiden press briefing.
But the Journalists were irked that the commissioner slated a briefing the same day Nigerians are protesting over the hard economic situation in the country.
Assignment Committee Chairman, Douglas Francis, in a message circulated among members said that the union was also boycotting the briefing because of the poor relationship between journalists on the Plateau and the state police command.
The message read, “Good morning colleagues! In view of the poor relationship of the Nigerian Police Force, Plateau Command with journalists, the NUJ leadership has advised journalists to boycott the police briefing which was deliberately slated the same time with NLC Protest over economic hardship.”
The union also accused the command of poor treatment of journalist, high hardness, lack of recognition of NUJ officials among others.
