National Universities Commission (NUC) has commenced the verification process of the approved 18 degree programmes for the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, (FUAHS), Enugu.
This was after President Bola Tinubu approved the conversion and upgrade of the former Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy into the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences (FUAHS), Enugu, to enhance human resources development in the health and social welfare sector.
The team, consisting of experts from institutions like Ahmadu Bello University, Nnamdi Azikwe University, and Babcock University, will evaluate the programmes based on the Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standard (CCMAS) documents, which serve as a benchmark for assessment.
A statement from the school indicated that, in anticipation of the 2024/2025 academic session, the university’s inaugural Senate had approved 22 programmes across five allied healthcare faculties while NUC directed verification of 18 out of the 22 programmes for take-off in the 2024/2025 academic session, thus the invitation of the NUC for verification of the programmes.
One of the NUC team leaders, Jude Akubue, in his remarks, expressed excitement for the historic occasion, highlighting the importance of adhering to the CCMAS.
The Acting Vice Chancellor of FUAHSE, Prof. John Emaimo, appreciated the team and assured them of the university’s readiness to cooperate and implement any recommendations for accreditation.
He emphasized the university’s commitment to addressing current societal challenges and shaping the minds of young individuals.
He conveyed gratitude to President Tinubu for his role in facilitating the university’s transition.
