Chief Chidi Obetta, the House Representative-elect for Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South federal constituency of Enugu State, in last Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly election has promised his constituents quality representation and democracy dividend.
Obetta contested and won the election under the platform of the Labour Party (LP) after he defeated his closest rival, Vita Abba, candidate of the People Democrats Party (PDP) to emerge winner of the Nsukka/ Igbo-Eze South federal constituency.
Speaking with newsmen in Nsukka on Tuesday, Obetta said that he would give the constituency quality representation, attract democracy dividend as well as carry all constituents along irrespective of political party affiliations.
“I will give Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency a voice at the national assembly and make sure that the people have their share of democracy dividend as well as carry everybody along not minding the political party any person belongs.
“I will open two constituency offices, one in Nsukka and another one in Igboeze-South.
“This will help me to get contributions and problems of the people, to know how to address their problems as well as make use of their contributions.
“The constituency under my watch will witness quality and effective representation, I will use my connections locally and internationally to attract quality democracy dividends to the constituency, “he said.
Obetta said he would empower more constituents, especially the youths by supporting their businesses as well as starting Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) for those who have nothing doing.
“As one who has worked in the bank for many years before establishing my own business, I know the importance of SMEs in any country’s economy.
“Developed countries give special attention to SME because of its positive multiplying effects on the economy, he said.
The House of Rep elect said that he had employed many people from the constituency in his private business and said with his new status would enable him to give more people employment.
“Even before I am elected, I have helped many people to start businesses of their own and employed many in my hotel business that spread across the country.
“Now that I have been elected to represent the constituency, it will enable me to do more for the people,” he said.
Obetta disclosed that some candidates of other political parties who contested with him in the February 25 poll have called him to congratulate him on his victory.
“I am happy that the country’s democracy is making progress.
“Some of my opponents in the last Saturday elections have called to congratulate me on my victory.
“I appreciate their calls, their spirit of sportsmanship, and I have promised them, we will work together to move the constituency forward,” he said.
Obetta thanked the people of Enugu State for giving massive votes to LP in the last Saturday election that made the party record landslide.
“I urge the good people of Enugu State to do same on March 11, to elect LP governor and House of Assembly members to move the state to an enviable height,”Obatta said.
