Aggrieved staff of Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) from various branches on Thursday, protested over a delay in the implementation of their salary adjustment by the management of the organisation.
According to them, the salary increase was long overdue, wondering what might have caused the delay.
The workers under the umbrella of Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI) and the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions (NUBIFI), gathered out the NSITF head quarters in Abuja chanting songs of solidarity.
The protest started last Thursday when the workers shut down some offices of the Fund across the federation, including the Abuja office.
According to information obtained, NSITF management and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment have had many meetings with ASSBIFI, a Union Congress (TUC) affiliate, and NUBIFI, a Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) affiliate, but none of the sessions have resulted in a settlement of the disagreement.
The NSITF management allegedly promised to start implementing the new salary adjustment and review in January 2023 but kept changing the deadline..
Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige had described the nationwide protest by staff of NSITF as ill-conceived.
Ngige had stated that the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) was reworking the salary review due to computation problems.
