Seeks prayers for peace, unity, good governance

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), under the leadership of its President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has announced a special national prayer for the peace, stability, and progress of Nigeria.
A statement signed by the NSCIA public affairs officer, Abbas Jimoh, on Tuesday, indicated that the prayer is scheduled for Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the Abuja National Mosque Complex, from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
The statement further noted that the special prayer would provide an opportunity for Muslims to collectively seek Allah’s guidance, protection, peace and blessings for Nigeria and its citizens.
The council also announced that its General Assembly would hold at the same venue on Thursday, October 1, beginning at 10 am.
“The General Assembly is the highest decision-making organ of the NSCIA and brings together representatives of the Muslim community from across the country to deliberate on issues affecting the council, the Muslim Ummah and the nation.
“The assembly will be chaired by Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar and attended by the Deputy President-General (North) and Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi; Deputy President-General (South), Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo; Secretary-General, Prof Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede; and Deputy Secretary-General, Prof Salisu Shehu.

“Also expected at the gathering are Muslim public office holders, including governors, federal and state legislators, ministers, heads of government agencies and chief executive officers.
“Representatives of the 36 state councils for Islamic affairs and the Federal Capital Territory, Islamic organisations, members of the General Purpose Committee and Expanded General Purpose Committee of the NSCIA, as well as prominent Muslim personalities from across the country, are also expected,” it said.
The council said the General Assembly would provide a broad platform for consultation, reflection and consideration of matters concerning the Muslim Ummah and the country.
It thus encouraged all invited members, representatives and stakeholders to make adequate arrangements to participate actively in the two-day programme.
The NSCIA also called on Muslims across the country to use the occasion to pray for continued peace, unity and security, as well as good governance and sustainable development.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to promoting unity among Muslims, fostering peaceful coexistence and supporting efforts aimed at strengthening the stability and progress of Nigeria.
