NSCDC prevents disaster as tanker spills 45,000 litres of PMS

By Shafa’atu Suleiman, Sokoto

A potential disaster was averted in Sokoto State on Tuesday when a petrol tanker loaded with 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) slid and fell at Dan Marna Filling Station, Gagi, Sokoto South Local Government Area (LGA).

The incident occurred at about 07:00 hours while the tanker was manoeuvring onto the road. The truck tipped sideways, causing leaks from the damaged tank and spilling its contents onto the ground, posing a significant threat to residents, lives, and properties within the vicinity.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Sokoto State Command swiftly initiated a well-coordinated emergency response team to the scene of the accident.

The area was cordoned off by the NSCDC and other security operatives, ensuring the safety of lives and properties and preventing any potential explosion or fire outbreak.

The state’s NSCDC Commandant, UI Alfadarai, said they had deployed adequate personnel to restrict access to the fallen tanker, ensuring public safety.

He added that the NSCDC worked closely with first responders to ensure the situation remained under control.
