NSCDC nabs 800 for criminal activities in Ebonyi

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Ebonyi State, has disclosed that it arrested a total of 800 persons for various offences last year.

Public Relations Officer of NSCDC, Emmanuella Ibeneme, in a statement, said the corps recorded notable  achievements in crime prevention, detection and prosecution contributing significantly to the maintenance of law and order in the state.

She revealed that the arrested suspects comprised of 520 males and 280 female.

Ibeneme said the suspects committed various offences,including vandalism, stealing, attempted murder, domestic violence, child trafficking, illegal possession of human heads, threat to life, illegal mining and defamation.

“A total of 800 suspects  were  arrested in connection of 595 cases. The arrested  suspects comprised of 520 males and 280 females, reflecting effective  intelligence gathering and operational operational coverage across different Crime categories..

“The crimes investigated during the year centered on vandalism, Stealing, attempted murder, domestic violence, child trafficking,Illegal possession of human heads, threat to life, Illegal mining and defamation

“Among these, vandalism and Stealing emerged as the most prevalent offences, particularly involving public infrastructure and construction materials, proactive policing strategies and targeted patrols helped to curb the spread of these crimes.

“All cases handled within the year was thoroughly investigated with sufficient evidence gathered to support prosecution, consequently all suspects were duly  charged to court, demonstrating professionalism, dialogue and commitment to due process and Justice.

“The command recorded substantial  recoveries during various operations, including six motorcycles.Over 50 bags of adulterated fertiliser large quantities of iron rods of various  sizes, 86 bags of cement stolen  from a road construction site, 10 mobile phones of various makes.

These  recoveries not only strengthened prosecution cases but also helped in safeguarding government and private assets”, she said.
