Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Dr Olusola Odumosu has tasked his personnel to deepen service excellence and professionalism through renewed dedication, improved performance and stronger relationships with the public the corps.

Odumosu, gave the charge at the closing ceremony commemorating this year’s Customer Service Week in Abuja.
The commandant noted that the one week event provides the corps with an important opportunity to reflect on the quality of service they render—— the expectations of the public, and the additional efforts required to build a more responsible, compassionate, professional, and people-oriented security institution.

“The theme of this year’s celebration, “Going the Extra Mile,” is both timely and instructive. It challenges everyone of us to look beyond the ordinary, exceed expectations, and demonstrate an uncommon commitment to service delivery” Odumosu, said

He stated that the theme goes beyond customer relations, adding that It speaks directly to the corps’ institutional values, constitutional responsibilities, and commitment to protecting lives, property, critical national assets, and infrastructure, while maintaining public confidence in the NSCDC operations.

The commandant disclosed further that in NSCDC, customers are citizens, corporate organisations, public institutions, private companies, and all stakeholders who interact with officers in the course of their statutory duties.

The FCT chief maintained that every citizen who approaches the NSCDC officer with a complaint, individuals who report a security threat, organisation that seeks the corps’ regulatory services, and every member of the public who requires assistance, deserves to be treated with dignity, courtesy, fairness, and professionalism.

” Our responsibility is not merely to perform our duties, but to perform them in a manner that inspires confidence and reassures the public that their security and welfare matters to us.

“To us in the NSCDC, every interaction is an opportunity to strengthen and not to weaken public trust, a courteous officer can restore confidence in an institution while an indifferent attitude can damage the reputation an organisation painstakingly built over many years” he said

The FCT helmsman explained that the NSCDC occupies a strategic position in Nigeria’s internal security architecture with the responsibilities of protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, disaster response, citizens protection, private guards regulation and other statutory assignments placed on the personnel in constant contact with the public.

“The effectiveness of these responsibilities depends not only on our operational capacity but also on the level of trust and co-operation we enjoy from citizens and stakeholders.

“In the FCT, our goal is to establish a service in which excellence is not occasional but habitual; courtesy is not selective but universal and accountability is not negotiable but fundamental” Odumosu stated .

In a statement, Odumosu urged his officers to maintain a service culture that places people at the centre of the corps’ decisions and actions as well as ensure professionalism, effective communication, emotional intelligence, conflict management and ethical conduct in order to make the corps’ services more efficient, transparent, accessible and responsive to the legitimate needs of the public.
