The National Sports Commission (NSC) has appointed seasoned sports technocrat, Tunde Adelakun, as Chairman of its newly established Diaspora Talents Discovery Committee.
The appointment was announced on Wednesday by the Director General of the NSC, Honourable Bukola Olopade, who said Adelakun was carefully selected by the commission’s leadership, led by Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko, due to his extensive experience in sports administration and strong ties within the Nigerian diaspora.
Olopade described the committee as a strategic component of the commission’s efforts to advance the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s sports development, noting that it will adopt scientific and sustainable approaches to achieving podium success at international competitions.
He said the initiative is aimed at harnessing Nigeria’s vast human resources both locally and abroad to strengthen the country’s sporting excellence.
According to the Director General, Adelakun’s wide network within the diaspora is expected to play a critical role in identifying and engaging Nigerian athletes overseas who are willing to represent the country with pride.
Reacting to his appointment, Adelakun expressed gratitude to the commission and described the initiative as a transformative step for Nigerian sports.
He said the programme aligns with international best practices by creating an enabling platform for diaspora athletes to seamlessly integrate into the national sports system.
Adelakun added that many Nigerians abroad are eager to compete for the country and that the committee’s role would be to provide a welcoming and structured pathway for their participation.
