NPFL: Rangers ready for Warri Wolves test – Ilechukwu

Rangers Coach

From Jude Chinedu, Enugu

Rangers International will host Warri Wolves in Enugu on Sunday in a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) week 22 encounter, with Technical Adviser Fidelis Ilechukwu expressing confidence in his side’s readiness for the crucial fixture.

Speaking during a pre-match briefing at the Rangers Secretariat on Abakaliki Road, GRA Enugu, on Friday, Ilechukwu said the Flying Antelopes have done their homework on the visitors.

“You must understand the team, the opponents, and everything; we’ve been following them and watching videos. They are very strong,” he stated.

While acknowledging the threat posed by Warri Wolves, the Rangers boss insisted his squad is both mentally and tactically prepared for Sunday’s clash.

“We understand what it takes, from analysis to execution. I think we are ready,” he affirmed.

He also underscored the importance of mentality as Rangers head into the second round of the season.

“Football is about mentality. You have to do your best, whether you win, draw, or lose. Mentally, we are prepared,” he explained.

On defender Chidozie Iwundu, who has scored seven league goals to sit second on the NPFL scoring chart, Ilechukwu described his philosophy of encouraging defenders to contribute offensively.

“Encouraging defenders to contribute offensively is part of our approach,” he noted.

Addressing the situation of Evans Ogbonda, who recently posted about leaving the club, Ilechukwu confirmed that the defender has secured a deal with Power Dynamos in Zambia.

“Evans has a deal in Zambia. We thank him for his contributions. We believe in giving players freedom, and we prioritise dialogue and welfare,” he said.

Looking ahead to the transfer window, the Rangers coach revealed plans to reinforce the attack, possibly with one or two strikers.

As Rangers prepare to face Warri Wolves in Enugu on Sunday, Ilechukwu remained optimistic about the team’s prospects in the second half of the season.

Rangers are currently fifth on the NPFL table with 33 points ahead of matchday 22.
