National Population Commission (NPC) has urged journalists in Enugu State to ensure effective reportage of the national population and housing census slated for March 29.
Commissioner representing the state at the commission, Ejike Ezeh made the call, yesterday, while declaring open a workshop for over 50 select journalists in the state.
Ezeh who emphasised the role of media practitioners in the exercise, said as the first digital census in Nigeria, there was need for enlightenment and proper dissemination of information.
He said the commission was not leaving any stone unturned to ensure a reliable and acceptable census that would generate data for economic development of the country.
Ezeh said the workshop was put in place mainly to ensure that journalists are actively involved in the processes of conducting the census.
He said the workshop would improve journalists capacity to effectively and professionally report the processes and outcome of the census.
“The press is a vital partner and gateway for information dissemination for the forthcoming census which is going to be the first digital census in Nigeria. The press is the only people known for giving reliable and acceptable information,” he said.
