From Fred Ezeh, Abuja

Nigerian Press Council (NPC) has condole with the family of its former Executive Secretary, Mr. Francis Ndubuisi Nwosu, who died few days ago, describing the death as a huge loss to the Nigerian media industry.

Mrs.Chinyere Facah, Assistant Director, Protocols/Public Relations, NPC, in a statement, on Saturday, noted that the Executive Secretary of NPC, Dr. Dili Ezughah, was shocked to the hear about the demise of his predecessor barely seven months after leaving office.

She said the NPC Executive Secretary regretting that Mr. Nwosu died when his rich experience and uncompromising bent on professionalism were mostly needed to foster ethical journalism in the country.

“Mr. Nwosu was among the few standing veterans who desired nothing less than excellence and undiluted professionalism in the media right from his glorious days in the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).”

Dr. Ezughah remarked that Mr. Nwosu’s relentless commitment to professionalism in the media as a fellow of the Nigerian Guild of Editors informed his advocacy for the replacement of the NPC with a new agency to be known as “Media Certification Board“, which will be saddled with the responsibility of issuing licences to qualified professionals to practise journalism in the country.

Dr. Ezughah said Mr. Nwosu will be remembered for his efforts to reposition the NPC and strengthen the Nigerian press during his three-year tenure as the Executive Secretary of the Council.

“My heart goes out to his family at this trying moment. May his gentle soul continue to rest in the bosom of the Lord”, Dr. Ezughah said.
