The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) is set to roll out an advanced electronic call-up system at the Onne Port complex, following approval from the Federal Executive Council. This development marks a significant step towards modernizing port operations.
The Managing Director/CEO of NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, announced the initiative on Monday during a pre-implementation visit by the Executive Team from Callup Technology Services Limited and Forge Concepts Limited, the developers behind the electronic solution. Dr. Dantsoho emphasised that, in alignment with the directive from the Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, the NPA is committed to expediting the automation of truck traffic management at Onne Port before the end of the current quarter.
Dr. Dantsoho further assured that the NPA will ensure the IT infrastructure provided by the operators integrates smoothly with the Port Community System (PCS) and the forthcoming National Single Window (NSW). He also highlighted the importance of incorporating sustainable practices, including the use of alternative energy sources.
The Onne Port Complex, which encompasses the Federal Ocean Terminal (FOT) and Federal Lighter Terminal (FLT), is recognized as the largest Oil & Gas logistics hub in West and Central Africa. The port has recently experienced remarkable growth in both vessel and cargo traffic.
Dr. Dantsoho, who previously served as Port Manager for Onne Port Complex from 2020 to 2021, was instrumental in initiating innovative, investor-friendly strategies that have contributed to the port’s impressive year-on-year growth.
