Nothing adds up in this world. One plus one gives you two only in mathematics. It is not so, elsewhere: check out marriage; one plus one is equal to one. And, politically and logically, one plus one can be 11.
Nothing is constant in this world. Bestie today, worstie tomorrow. Something as sweet as friendship suddenly transmogrifies into something as bitter as yoyo bitters; sorry, something as bitter as enmity. Political sweethearts of 2019 are sworn enemies in the build-up to 2023, a matter of just three, four years.
Nothing guarantees anything in this world. A man of peace faces many wars. A woman of virtue encounters many battles. Don’t you dare think that choosing to be good is end of discussion.
Nothing is the best in this world. Even the best is not the best; which explains why -most often than not- the best is not good enough. The best of the best is not the best, technically. For instance, football authorities insist -and they should know- that the best teams are found in Europe and the worst in Africa but how many times have African sides not walloped their European counterparts within 90 minutes?
Nothing is cast in concrete in this world. In fact, even concrete can collapse like a pack of cards. The one you ignore or maltreat will emerge your last man standing. The one you prefer or spoil with love will show you shege when it matters most.
Nothing provides surefire assurance in this world. Many who graduated first class are being employed and sustained by bosses who could not even make third class. In far too many cases, the educated are currently working for or under those who aren’t. Stop wondering which between education and money is power.
Nothing is that powerful in this world. Some places, education is a taboo; the more of it you have, the less of you they respect. Elsewhere, money is the culprit; haters have crafted a fantastic derogatory way to convey the message to the rich. ‘They are so poor, all they have is money!’
Nothing can resolve that matter in this world. With neither head nor tail, it is kept alive only by envy, greed and stupidity -or all. Characteristically, the rich are quite dismissive. The poor are so rich, all they don’t have is money.
Nothing lasts forever in this world. It is both surreal and comforting to know that our oppressors shall one day cry for mercy -if not in life, surely in death. One day, oppression and oppressors shall come to the end of their evil journey on earth. One fine day, those who traded in manufacturing and distributing injustice shall realise that the medicine is good for them too because what goes around comes around.
Nothing is permanent in this world. You must have seen how takeawayish or virile they looked or were in their youth. 70 years after, see the empty shell that remains of such beauty or strength. Age or time can be heartless.
Nothing is more heartless in this world. The very young soon vamoose into eternity. The very old continue to rejuvenate. The very healthy drop and die while the very sick bounce back and about like a tennis ball.
Nothing you need in this world is greater than the gift of men. A dog might provide security, a cock protein but it is only men, women and children who give your life that true meaning. Alas, it is only the same they who can torment your life all the way to depression or death or both!
Nothing -and nobody- can be said to be useless from start to finish in this world. Even a batteryless clock is right twice within 24 hours. The guy they ridiculed at the beginning as too churchy has years later given the family an international prominence because of church work. The family black sheep 20 years ago is now the one everyone fears their family for.
Nothing you do or say affects love. Love will always love. Hate will always hate. Unfortunately, love will always accommodate hate while hate will always seek to steal, destroy or kill love.
Nothing -and nobody- can make man God in this or any other world. Not even God can; let alone man himself. No amount of righteousness or philanthropy or sacrifice can alter human course. Things pan out the way they are meant to.
Nothing is not something. Nobody is not somebody. It just depends on time and place and need. Everything or everybody can become the chief cornerstone just like that.
Nothing is too sacred. Nobody is too godly. Everything has a drop of evil. Everybody too.
Nothing is too evil. Nobody too is. Everybody can be good, with a little more love, a little more patience and a little more forgiveness. Time can prove the sanctity of everything thought evil.
From the foregoing, you get the sense that there’s nothing or nobody terminally bad or good, useless or useful. So, please, be more cautious and less judgmental. People and things are not as bad or as good as they appear or as we make them. In my case though, time shall confirm what an altruist I have always been and ever shall be.
God bless Nigeria!
2023: Are politicians ready for electoral revolution?
Considering our nation seems to be on a free fall, all round, the next ballot should make Nigerians anxious if not outright scared. We can’t afford not to get it right. 2023 might just be our last chance.
Fortunately, our young people who form an alarming majority of the population are waking up from their chronic slumber. Are they willing to be obedient (please, don’t give my spelling that look) all the way? For example, would they stand up to politicians by not allowing vote buying, thuggery, and allied electoral criminalities on the D-Day?
Umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission, seem to be getting everything about preparation right. We should support them with all we can muster. We should also listen to what political parties and candidates are not saying.
2023 is our chance. We must take it, no matter what. Nigeria is about to change positively, for good!
