Nothing can stop #FreeNnamdiKanu movement – Sowore

Sowore leading a protest

Human rights activist and politician Omoyele Sowore has declared his intention to defy any court order seeking to stop the scheduled #FreeNnamdiKanu protest on Monday.

Sowore is at the forefront of the demonstration around strategic locations in Abuja aimed at securing the release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in custody since his 2021 extradition from Kenya and faces terrorism charges.

Taking to his X handle, Sowore said his legal team will challenge any court order, adding that nothing will stop the #FreeNnamdiKanu movement.

“Our legal team will challenge any alleged court order the moment we are served on Monday. But let it be known that nothing can stop this mass movement.

“October 20 #FreeNnamdiKanuNow remains sacrosanct. We march peacefully, lawfully, and powerfully,” he said.

Sowore’s comment comes following a warning by the police ordering all groups to comply with a subsisting court order restraining gatherings near sensitive areas, including Aso Rock Villa, the National Assembly, Force Headquarters, Eagle Square, and Shehu Shagari Way.

“The Order restrains the respondents and any other persons or groups acting under their instruction from staging protests within and around Aso Rock Villa and its environs,” part of the statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, reads.
