Rewarding individuals who contribute to human development remains one of the ways to encourage more people to contribute meaningfully to society.
It was in that spirit that three distinguished Nigerians whose work cuts across entertainment, journalism and faith-based philanthropy were honoured recently in Lagos.
At a well-attended award presentation ceremony, Nollywood actress Amandla Ebeye, veteran broadcaster Paul Aigboje of Independent Television (ITV), and the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, Dr Daniel Olukoya, were celebrated for their outstanding contributions to nation-building.
Aigboje, a producer at ITV’s Lagos station, was honoured for his outstanding performance in journalism spanning more than two decades.
Colleagues described him as a journalist of depth, courage and credibility who has consistently used the platform of television to spotlight human-interest stories, promote good governance and give a voice to the voiceless.
From hard-hitting documentaries on education and health to community development reports that have influenced policy discussions, Aigboje’s work has set a standard for ethical and people-centred journalism in the South-South region.
Speaking after receiving the award, Aigboje said the recognition meant a lot because it was earned on merit.
“People buy awards just to be recognised, but I was awarded on merit. This will spur me to do more in the area of human development as I discharge my duty. Journalism is not just about reporting; it is about impacting lives.”
He dedicated the honour to his wife and children for their unwavering support, and to his mentor, Gabriel Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin Kingdom, for laying the foundation and believing in him right from the start of my career journey.
Nollywood star Amandla Ebeye was also full of gratitude. The actress, known for her versatility and advocacy for women and children, said the award came as a pleasant surprise.

The General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, Dr Daniel Olukoya, was recognised for his philanthropy and religious achievements.
Under his leadership, MFM has grown into one of Nigeria’s largest ministries, with far-reaching outreach programmes, including free medical missions, scholarships, youth empowerment and poverty alleviation initiatives across the country.
The church’s annual programmes have also provided spiritual direction to millions, while its humanitarian arm has intervened in disaster relief efforts and support for vulnerable families.
The award recognised Olukoya’s commitment to combining faith with practical action to uplift communities.
Also speaking at the award presentation, Obongawan Ekaette Stephen, a prominent woman leader from Akwa Ibom State, commended Cornel Media Consult for the initiative.
“I am very impressed with this award presentation to these recipients because of their positive impacts on society. When we honour people who are doing well, we are telling the next generation that integrity, hard work, and service to humanity still matter. Awards like this are important because they celebrate character, not just fame. They encourage others to rise and contribute to human development in their own little corners.”
In his remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of the CMC Award, Udofia Cornelius, said the award was part of the organisation’s commitment to promoting excellence.
“We are here to appreciate and encourage these great Nigerians to continue their inputs on society. Our country needs more people who are using their talent, pulpit, and pen to build people.”
