The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), under the global auspices of Olympic Solidarity, has announced plans to stage the 2026 Olympic Day celebration on Saturday, June 27.
Organised in collaboration with its Sport-For-All Commission, the annual event is designed to promote the benefits of physical activity while encouraging Nigerians of all ages to embrace the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect.
The NOC said the initiative would once again provide a nationwide platform for mass participation, highlighting the importance of regular exercise in maintaining physical and mental well-being. Activities such as jogging and walking, the committee noted, remain simple yet effective ways to burn calories, tone muscles and relieve stress.
Chairman of the NOC Sport-For-All Commission, Abdul Ibrahim, stressed that this year’s campaign would prioritise inclusivity and the social benefits of exercise.

He urged participants to involve others in their fitness routines, noting that shared physical activity enhances both motivation and overall impact.
Following what organisers described as record participation in 2025, the NOC has already dispatched invitation letters to all state governments, with State Sports Councils expected to commence preparations to ensure broad grassroots involvement across the country.
NOC President Habu Ahmed Gumel said the 2026 edition aims to bridge generational gaps by using sport and physical activity to strengthen bonds between young and older Nigerians.
The committee also called on corporate organisations and individuals to support the initiative through sponsorship and partnerships, emphasising that such backing would not only boost public health outcomes but also offer partners strong brand visibility while promoting national unity and wellness.
