The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has given a pat on the back to newly formed Nigeria Muaythai Federation (NMF) describing it as a “sports federation to watch.”
NOC scribe, Tunde Popoola stated this when officials of the Muaythai federation paid the Olympic body a courtesy call early this week in Lagos.
The NMF officials led by its president Sam Nweke had during the visit presented to the NOC a trophy and medal won during the African Muaythai championship which took place in Morocco last December.
It would be noted that Nigeria’s Sadiq Mohammed won a bronze, while the country won a trophy as the tournament’s Most Aggressive Nation.
Popoola pointed out that winning laurel in the continent at a championship in which the country was only making its debut is commendable.
“Nigeria Muaythai Federation is a sports federation to watch. For the federation to have gone to Morocco and won laurels for the country shows she has something to offer. The Morocco trip was the first time the country was participating in a Muaythai championship. The NOC is impressed with what the Nigeria Muaythai Federation is doing,” Popoola said.
Vice of NMF, Jonathan Nnaji who is also an executive member of African Muaythai Union commended NOC for supporting Muaythai, even as he stated that the new sports federation would be propelled to do more by the support it is getting from the Olympic body.
