‘Nobody will do what I intend in the North’ – Peter Obi

Former Anambra State Governor and ADC chieftain, Peter Obi, has pledged sweeping economic and security reforms for Northern Nigeria, declaring that no other political leader matches the scale of what he plans to achieve in the region.

Obi made the statement while speaking on his vision for the North during an interview with ARISE NEWS on Monday.

He said he would work closely with northern political allies, including Rabiu Kwankwaso and Nasir El-Rufai, to confront insecurity by addressing its root causes—poverty, unemployment, and underinvestment.

“Nobody will build or do what I intend to do in the North. I’ll change the North. I’ll create assets in the North. I’ll create assets that the country has in the North. The vast, uncultivated land is our future, Obi said.

He stressed that Northern Nigeria’s vast uncultivated land represents a major economic opportunity, arguing that agriculture can generate more revenue for Nigeria than oil if properly harnessed.

“We can make more money as a country from agriculture than we make from oil. And that we have to start doing immediately,” he said.

According to Obi, restoring security in the region requires immediate investment in agriculture, education, and healthcare, alongside policies aimed at lifting millions out of poverty.

Peter Obi added that insecurity across the North and the wider country demands decisive leadership, noting that long-term peace can only come through stronger governance, justice, and renewed public trust in state institutions.

“If we want to secure the North today, we need to start investing in those critical areas: agriculture, pulling people out of poverty, investing in education, investing in health. And that we can do,” Obi stated.
