While speaking on the Kebbi State Government’s intervention on Hajj, Karofi noted that the state government approved the sum of N10 billion as a refundable loan to secure Hajj seats for intending pilgrims.
The NOA Director, who described the action as a clear demonstration that the government was responsive to the welfare and spiritual aspirations of its people, said condemnation from certain quarters stemmed from a misinterpretation of the fund and its intention.
He explained that the loan facility was secured to pay the National Hajj Commission (NAHCON) and prevent intending pilgrims from losing their slots due to the strict payment deadline.
Karofi praised the prompt and decisive action of Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, and the Chairman of the State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, Alhaji Faruku Musa Yaro Enabo.
He said: “The Governor and the State Commission Chairman should be commended for this promptness to help the intending pilgrims meet the strict deadline of the National Hajj Commission. This intervention is a clear demonstration that the government is responsive to the welfare and spiritual aspirations of its people.”
