Amnesty International Nigeria has condemned a bandit attack that killed at least 10 people, including a pregnant woman and children, in Guga village of Bakori local government area of Katsina state.

It was learnt that the attackers also burnt down ‌homes and looted livestock during the Sunday attack.

In a Tuesday statement shared on Facebook, Amnesty said, “The horrific attack that took place on Sunday 17 May 2026, is yet another sign that no part of Katsina state is safe from the atrocities of bandits.

“These attacks deprive people of their right to life while the survivors are deprived of their livelihood.

“Under international human rights law, the authorities have obligation to protect lives and ensure that those suspected of perpetrating these killings are held to account, as well as to provide victims with access to justice and effective remedies.

“Again and again, the Nigerian authorities are failing to live up to these obligations.”
