The Vice Chancellor, Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, has denied claims that some students were denied access to exam halls on account of not wearing a bra.
Agboola told newsmen that the “no bra, no exam” story trending online did not reflect any existing university policy guiding the conduct of the ongoing 2024/2025 rain examination.
He confirmed that the university has a dress code policy, which students are expected to comply with not only during exam period but also constantly.
“The story making the rounds online is not true. No students were prevented from writing the ongoing examination.
“The incident that happened was an isolated case of an exam supervisor ensuring female students are properly dressed before entering the exam hall, that student was allowed to write the examination.
“The Deputy Vice Chancellor on Academic matters and l monitored the examination on Monday and Tuesday. The incident being reported online was not a true picture of what transpired.
“I want to emphasise that no female students or any male students were stopped from participating in the ongoing examination, if the student had paid school fees and registered,” Prof. Agboola stated.
According to him, the alleged infraction circulating online was an attempt to enforce the university dress code.
The VC further disclosed that the “no bra, no exam” does not exist in the university dress code.
Prof. Agboola said the attempt to enforce the university dress code was taken out of context.
The OOU helmsman revealed that during the examination, he does not leave campus, adding, “Since I became the VC, I monitor every exam.”
Agboola noted that even if students violate the university dress code, they are counselled and allowed to write the exam.
He said the university management is planning to introduce an identity card with a chip that can allow students access to lectures and examinations.
The new identity card project, the VC noted, is capital-intensive, and the university management is seeking ways to fund the project.
Meanwhile, the VC has enjoyed staff invigilating the conduct of the ongoing 2024/2025 rain exam to obey and comply with all examination rules and regulations within the context of our edict.
He stressed that staff relationships in checking the students into the examination halls should be done in the best way and manner possible within the ambit of examination regulations.
“In case of any emergencies, especially health, appropriate university organs and officers should be contacted immediately. Please do not delay any emergency.
“In a situation of examination misconduct or malpractices, diligence, responsibility, and civility should be followed in booking the concerned student(s).”
The VC tasked heads of departments to ensure their students uphold the OOU-Dress-Code standard, which is guided by decency and character.
“And where students fail to comply with decent dressing, staff are expected to uphold caution, civility and responsibility in addressing them by reporting the infraction to the appropriate organs of the university,” he noted.
The VC lauded his colleagues for their commitment, dedication and diligence demonstrated so far at the ongoing examinations and urged them to sustain the tempo till the end of the examination within the ambit of the rules and regulations of OOU governing the awards of degrees as approved by the Senate.
