The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has declared that prospective corps members without clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD) will not be mobilised for national service.
The directive comes as the scheme intensifies preparations for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ mobilisation and strengthens measures to safeguard corps members during orientation camp journeys.
In a notice posted on its official X account on Monday, the NYSC said NERD clearance is now a compulsory requirement for mobilisation.
“This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation,” the scheme stated.
Reaffirming the directive, the agency added, “NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!”
The NYSC urged prospective corps members to complete the verification process early, warning that failure to obtain the clearance could delay their mobilisation into the national service programme.
Although the scheme did not explain the clearance procedure, the directive signals tighter verification measures ahead of the next orientation exercise.
The advisory comes hours after the NYSC announced the mobilisation of another batch of prospective corps members for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year.
The scheme had urged tertiary institutions and eligible graduates to complete all required documentation before the commencement of the orientation programme.
The latest directive also follows a recent safety advisory in which the NYSC cautioned prospective corps members against travelling to orientation camps at night.
The scheme advised those embarking on long journeys to break their trips where necessary and lodge in safe locations or designated military and security formations instead of travelling after dark.
The NYSC’s latest directives underscore its renewed focus on strengthening the integrity of the mobilisation process while improving the safety of prospective corps members amid persistent security concerns across the country’s highways.
