Kano State Government has debunked media reports to the effect that a working journalist, Naziru Yau, was hit by a stray bullet at the Government House.

A statement issued by Sanusi Bature, spokesman to the Governor of Kano State, denied any such incident, adding that the journalist who works at the state television station was rather hit by metal debris emanating from an ongoing construction within the Government House.

“The truth of the incident emerged when medical professionals at the Government House Clinic disclosed the true nature of Naziru’s injuries,” he stated.

“The journalist, Mr. Naziru, expressed gratitude for the prompt medical attention he received and thanked well-wishers for their concern during his recovery,” Sanusi stated.

“Let me emphasise the need for journalists to remain vigilant while carrying out their duties, especially in environments where construction activities pose potential hazards.

“We also need to underscore the importance of accurate reporting and thorough investigation in mitigating misinformation and maintaining public trust,” he stated.

It would be recalled that the incident sparked widespread concern regarding the safety of journalists covering events at the Government House.

Sanusi, however, assured the public of government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all individuals within its premises and in the state in general.

He equally pledged government’s resolve to review and enhance existing safety protocols at the Government House to prevent similar incidents in the future.
