A coalition of civil rights activists has accused unnamed individuals of orchestrating a campaign of misinformation and blackmail against former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, insisting that no amount of propaganda would derail the ongoing pursuit of justice in the Ajiran killings.
Addressing journalists in Lagos on Monday, the Coalition of Core Civil Rights Activists dismissed allegations linking AIG Jimoh to the investigation into the death of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, describing the claims as false, misleading and a calculated attempt to tarnish the reputation of the senior police officer.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, its spokesperson, Chief Declan Ihekaire, said a review of the sequence of Commissioners of Police in Lagos clearly showed that AIG Jimoh was not in office when Mohbad died on September 12, 2023.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos at the time of Mohbad’s death was Idowu Owohunwa, who was subsequently promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police in December 2023.
Ihekaire explained that Owohunwa was succeeded by CP Adegoke Fayoade, who served until September 17, 2024, when he was also elevated to the rank of AIG. Fayoade was succeeded by CP Ishola Olanrewaju Olawale, while CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh only assumed office as Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, on February 18, 2025, before his redeployment in March 2026.
“The chronological records clearly establish that AIG Olohundare Jimoh was never the Commissioner of Police in Lagos when Mohbad died or when the initial investigation commenced. Any attempt to suggest otherwise is a deliberate distortion of facts intended to mislead the public,” Ihekaire said.
The coalition further alleged that some individuals currently facing prosecution for alleged offences, including murder, land grabbing and other criminal acts, had resorted to blackmail in a bid to discredit law enforcement officers involved in the enforcement of the law.

It maintained that AIG Jimoh’s record of professional service while heading the Lagos State Police Command earned him promotion and subsequent deployment to a higher command, stressing that attempts to malign his character were politically and criminally motivated.
Defending the operational procedures of the Nigeria Police Force, the coalition noted that the Force conducts investigations and prosecutions in line with established legal and professional protocols. It argued that efforts to undermine serving and former police officers through false allegations could weaken public confidence in security institutions.
The group also expressed concern over what it described as the increasing spread of misinformation on social media, warning that the circulation of false narratives could obstruct the administration of justice and erode trust in law enforcement agencies.
On the Ajiran killings, the coalition reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice for the victims, insisting that campaigns of calumny and blackmail would not derail the legal process.
“We will not be deterred in pursuing justice on the Ajiran killings. No amount of falsehood or blackmail will halt the wheel of justice,” Ihekaire stated.
The coalition urged Nigerians to verify information before accepting claims circulated online and reaffirmed its commitment to defending the truth, promoting the rule of law and supporting lawful efforts aimed at combating crime and strengthening public confidence in the nation’s security institutions.
